Job Description

The Orders Foundation Team is at the center of Square's Omnichannel and eCommerce strategy. We are focused on evolving Square's Order Management System that powers our Point of Sale products and is also made available to third-party developers through our public Connect developer platform. Our highly available service is involved in the complete order lifecycle: placement, payment, fulfillment and analytics.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Orders Foundation APIs Team. This team builds the platform APIs that make up the Orders Management System. Customers and team members rely on this platform for the source of truth for their sales, making this team essential to both Square's success and a merchant's business. As a manager, you'll lead the team responsible for building the distributed systems that power this source of truth.

 

You will:

  • Collaborate with Product Management, senior leadership, teams across Square and your peers to develop the strategy for your team, reporting into the Senior Manager for the Orders Foundation Engineering team

  • Develop efficient processes, ensuring the engineering team is operating with high velocity, ownership, and accountability 

  • Build an outstanding team by coaching engineers, encouraging engineering decision-making, and applying your technical expertise to hold your team to high engineering standards

  • Guide the team in evolving our systems to be more robust and reliable

Qualifications

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field 8+ years relevant software development and systems design experience

  • 2+ years of experience as a Software Development Manager

  • Experience leading large software services that have successfully been delivered to customers 

  • Complete platform API lifecycle experience (inception through sunset & replacement)

  • [Bonus] Experience with mobile development
