Job Description

Square is looking for a strategic, creative and results-oriented marketing member to own our Brand and Awareness Marketing efforts in Japan. The Brand Marketing team in Japan ensures that the right customers are getting the right brand message, through the right channels at the right time. You will be driving brand and awareness initiatives and executing them to build Square’s Brand and increase product awareness/usage in the market.

You will have a passion for representing our Square Sellers’ voices through branding while having a strong understanding of product strategy and positioning, and a track record of cross-functional coordination in launching global and local brand campaigns from above the line to below the line. You will report to the Marketing Lead, Japan in Tokyo and will work with the global Marketing team and Japan local Marketing team.

You Will:

  • Define the strategy, roadmap and success metrics for brand and awareness initiatives in Japan to improve our brand perception and awareness 

  • Identify target customers, their needs, and how the Square brand will meet those needs globally and locally in Japan

  • Be the trusted voice of Square Sellers in Japan by surfacing qualitative and quantitative insights to shape product direction and brand messaging

  • Work with internal and external teams to develop creative, assets and copy that resonates with our audiences

  • Design and execute media plans with external partners to magnify our messages and conduct quantitative and qualitative research projects to monitor the impact

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including global and local Marketing, Communications, Data Analytics, and Customer Success teams to drive projects

Qualifications

​​​​​​You have:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent practical experience 

  • Demonstrated brand marketing experience across media/channels including digital, radio, podcasts, television, out of home 

  • The ability to work with Japan-based customers in Japanese (writing and phone), and global Square colleagues in English (reading, writing and video meetings)

  • Strong quantitative analytical ability

  • Experience building and managing relationships with business leaders at all levels, with internal colleagues and external partners

  • Comfort in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, start-up environment

  • Genuine interest in and curiosity about Marketing, Small Business and FinTech

  • A passion for Square and desire to help customers
