Job Description

Square is looking for a US Indirect Tax Accountant to join its tax function. You will be part of the Tax Team and will support all US transaction tax compliance, reporting, audits, planning and integration activities. You will work within the tax team and numerous teams across our organization. We are looking for passionate individuals who will work as a member of Square's Tax team, leading efforts to support our product teams.

You Will:

  • Prepare indirect tax compliance and reporting including sales and use tax, Commercial Activities Tax, Gross Receipts, Property Taxes and Business Licences

  • Research state and local indirect tax filing requirements, report requirements to management and implement filing.

  • Work with a third party filing partner to ensure all monthly data transferred is complete and accurate

  • Review third party filing partner spreadsheets and reconcile to monthly data provided

  • Prepare monthly indirect tax accruals and reconciliations for key accounts for SOX control purposes

  • Prepare, monitor and complete monthly tax calendar related to companies filing obligations

  • Support the efficient closure of all indirect tax audits and tax assessment notices

  • Work with team of other motivated tax professionals, as well as outside service providers and other internal groups such as accounting and legal departments

  • Help with the setup of software solutions for indirect tax automation

  • Help implement processes as a result of new and evolving business practices or tax legislation

Qualifications

You Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field

  • CPA Preferred

  • 2+ years of tax experience working at a public accounting firm, or multinational corporations, or industry, focused on sales/use tax

  • Familiarity with e-commerce sales taxation trends

  • The ability to find and implement best practices

  • The ability to issue spot and apply indirect tax concepts to the business

  • An understanding of tax concepts, and an ability to research and form an opinion on technical tax issues

Even better:

  • Experience using G Suite applications (Spreadsheet, Docs, Slides, etc.)

  • Experience with running reports and extracting data or invoices from Oracle, MySql, Hyperion, APEX, Regulator, Looker and Netsuite

  • Experience with maintaining, running reports and extracting data from Vertex O
