Credit Risk Specialist - Bilingual (French/English)

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

We are looking for a finance professional to join Square's excellent Risk organization to help manage credit risk for sellers processing on Square. You understand credit and financial analysis, and a desire to apply those skills in new ways to help Square grow our annual processing volume while controlling loss related to chargebacks.  You will conduct reviews of all sellers, assessing credit risk associated with processing activity, and taking appropriate action following our risk policies. You will maintain high quality standards while ensuring that we follow internal and seller-facing service-level agreements. You will have a thirst for knowledge—gathering insights, identifying areas for improvement, and contributing to essential programs to push our team forward. Lastly, you will be dynamic and be passionate for Square's mission of Economic Empowerment. If all of this sounds exciting, you may be a good fit and we look forward to hearing from you!

You will:

  • Perform reviews of high-risk seller accounts and following Square's risk policies
  • Analyze risks associated with different seller business models and card processing patterns
  • Collect and review appropriate documentation necessary to mitigate risk
  • Document decisions and rationale observing our underwriting guidelines
  • Communicate with sellers by phone and email, including investigative-level conversations
  • Work with internal partners including Fraud and Compliance, and multiple levels of management
  • Help identify process improvements and contribute to Credit Risk initiatives

Qualifications

You have:

  • Spoken and written fluency in English and French.
  • Associate or Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting
  • Experience in payments or FinTech
  • 3+ years experience in credit operations, risk, underwriting, finance, or related
  • Previous experience in acquiring/card processing a plus
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding in financial statement analysis
  • Strong sense of accountability for helping our team achieve its collective goals and best-serve our customers
  • Must be a team-oriented person with a willingness to contribute new ideas, and learn from and mentor others
