Job Description

Our team at Cash App is looking for a leader who will build up and continue to develop our Design Systems function from the ground up.

The Design Systems Lead will channel their systems-mindset to create and integrate a consistent, efficient language across the product portfolio, empowering the entire organization to build faster and better. You will be responsible for creating a more accessible, scalable, and beautiful customer experience. You will also be tasked with designing, documenting, evangelizing, and teaching the best practices associated with it. You will work to deeply understand the needs of both customers and internal stakeholders. This will enable you to develop and iterate components and patterns that are stress-tested, scalable, accessible, inclusive, and easy to use across our experience. You will shape and drive this discipline, and you’ll manage the overall relationships between the system and the teams — largely designers and engineers — who use it.

You will:

  • Lead the visual and technical direction of the experience design, visual style, and technical tooling, with input from director-level peers of product design and development teams.

  • Present the system’s mission, library, and process to other groups, including product managers, engineers, marketers, QA, and other design and development teams throughout the enterprise.

  • Interview and foster discussions with “customers” using the system. Conduct reviews with team members to identify successes, challenges, perspectives and preferences.

  • Identify and nurture team growth and culture, identifying opportunities for team members to drive and lead system aspects.

  • Decisively resolve priorities, timing, risks, task importance, and possible breaking changes.

  • Identify, monitor, and report on system use across the company, report team and system progress regularly to leadership and stakeholders

  • Attend and coordinate with product management release planning activities to identify needs.

  • Leverage research and data to understand customer needs, shape and evolve the language system, and assess issues, problems and gaps.

Qualifications

You have:

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience

  • A body of work that showcases the ways in which you were directly responsible for leading and shaping a Design Systems team

  • Experience as a primary contributor to multiple high impact projects

Even better:

  • You have executive presence and are able to effectively present work in a clear manner that is curated appropriately to the audience

  • You participate in design discipline-wide conversations and create deliverables on how to improve process, operations, and tools

  • You have developed a strong “gut” for design and are able to lean on your years of experience to rapidly execute design tasks to keep the team moving forward

  • You are able to establish key measures of success for a given initiative
