Job Description

We are looking for a Sanctions Program Manager to join Square and support the continued build out of our Cash App Sanctions Compliance program. Our mission is to make banking and financial services accessible to the underserved and unbanked by designing and implementing an outstanding compliance program to help grow the Cash App business while protecting the broader financial ecosystem and the Company.

In this role, you will support the Cash App Sanctions Compliance function by assessing and mitigating risk related to sanctions and terrorist financing. You will scope and contribute to the build of sanctions controls, tools, and strategies to ensure compliance with relevant sanctions laws and regulations across jurisdictions. You will assist with the design and effectiveness of our detection, monitoring, and reporting operations program, and collaborate with Compliance Leads and other relevant stakeholders to drive results. You will demonstrate excellent regulatory, process and systems design, data analytics, and documentation abilities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate current operational processes and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, Square’s OFAC Global Policy, and industry best practices

  • Make recommendations for and assist in executing process improvements and procedure updates for the Sanctions team

  • Draft and maintain relevant documentation and content for changes to the program in accordance with regulatory updates, new products, and overall Compliance team policies and procedures

  • Identify and evaluate sanctions requirements for new and existing products or features

  • Assess current sanctions-related controls and make recommendations for scalable improvements

  • Liaise between compliance, business and technical teams, and manage stakeholder relationships

  • Assist in identifying potential sanctions risk, assess impacts, and define mitigation strategies

  • Remain current with sanctions laws and regulations including OFAC, EU and EU sanctions and other pertinent regulatory guidance in order to assess ongoing sanctions risks

  • Stay apprised of regulatory developments, industry trends and Square roadmaps to drive decisions

You have:

  • 2+ years as a project or program manager with direct experience in economic sanctions compliance or 5+ years in relevant BSA/AML role (FinTech or cryptocurrency company is highly desirable)

  • Proficiency in relevant sanctions laws and regulations including having the ability to analyze regulations for determining permissible transactions and business activity

  • A strong analytical and metrics driven approach to create substantiated solutions

  • Strong knowledge in OFAC, EU and UN sanctions regulations, risks and typologies

  • Superb organization skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Adaptability in an agile and fast-paced environment

  • Ability to execute independently and work with team members of all levels 

  • A mindset to deliver results proactively, resourcefully, and methodically

  • ACAMS Certification preferred

Even Better:

  • Fluency in a language other than English;

  • Strong knowledge of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies;

  • Experience with SQL and/or Looker
