Job Description

Risk Engineering works to protect Square and our customers from fraud and payment disputes. We keep our customers safe while $25B+ flows through Square annually, and we allow the entire company to take risks and grow. To do this, we build systems to detect and respond to potential fraud threats, provide outstanding tools to agents for investigating fraud events, and give our customers seamless web and mobile experiences to manage and fight payment disputes. We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to expand our Risk team’s global presence and build a team from the ground up in Dublin, Ireland. In this role, you’d be the founding technical member of our new Dublin Risk Engineering team,  establishing a team that is committed to keeping our customers safe from fraud and mitigating the impact of financial loss. You’d work closely with other engineering teams, as well as our Risk Operations and Policy team here in Dublin, and you’d work cross-functionally on a global scale to strategize on and deliver the product roadmap. As our merchants continue to grow, and our business expands its global reach, we need to ensure that our protection scales with them.

You will:

  • Found and scale a team of 5 direct reports who are responsible for the delivery and success of essential fraud and disputes products and prevention 

  • Work with teams across Square, in various locations, to make technical, design, and product decisions, contributing to the strategic direction for our Risk Engineering team and broader Risk organization 

  • Build an outstanding team by coaching engineers, promoting engineering decision-making, and applying your technical expertise to hold your team to high engineering standards 

  • Grow your career in an engaged and creative engineering community that ships amazing products, reporting directly to a Senior Manager on the Risk team

Qualifications

You have:

  • 2+ years of experience as a people manager, with demonstrated ability to ensure the success of your team members 

  • Experience hiring and building teams of top engineering talent in Ireland 

  • A history of healthy collaboration with product managers, operations agents, engineers, data scientists, and engineering managers on developing roadmaps and working towards them 

  • Interest in working full-stack across multiple technical domains, including backend microservices and both internal and external-facing tools
