Software Engineering Manager, Web Payments Experience

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

We provide SDKs that thousands of developers use to power hundreds of thousands of merchants' websites. We create great experiences for buyers on the web, ensure that their payment data remains safe and secure while keeping our sellers compliant with industry regulations. Over the last year, we've begun investing in the future of our stack, moving to TypeScript, ensuring high availability by serving requests from multiple datacenters, and beginning our journey to the cloud.

You will:

  • Guide and mentor a geographically distributed team of engineers as they add to our existing SDKs and consider the future set of tools and libraries that developers need

  • Ensure continued operational excellence, supporting the team as they own and operate both frontend SDKs and the related backend services that support those SDKs

  • Foster long-term thinking and innovation in a complex space, and promote your organization to support our business

  • Export the team’s best practices to the rest of Square, and support other teams that look to ship web SDKs

  • Collaborate with product management, design, senior engineering and product leadership, and your peers to develop the strategy for your team, reporting into the Lead for Payment Experience

  • Develop efficient processes, ensuring the engineering team is operating with high velocity, ownership, and accountability to our customers

  • Oversee the success of your team's projects and achieve quantifiable results on time

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical, working experience (6+ years preferred)
