Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

The Ratings and Underwriting team assesses and manages potential chargeback risk for the largest sellers processing on Square, and assists in the onboarding of new accounts in partnership with our sales team. We promote the growth of our sellers through a combination of in-depth financial analysis, understanding of business models, novel risk tools and approaches, and principled risk-taking.

We are looking for an Underwriting Manager to support our growing seller base by leading a team of experienced Underwriters responsible for reviewing high-value merchant accounts. In their roles, they will conduct merchant due diligence calls, partner with enablement teams such as Sales and Account Management, and propose tailored solutions which ensure growth while mitigating risk. As a leader within Credit Risk, you will set goals and effect change in your team, drafting procedures to manage large-seller risk, and advocating for our culture of seller enablement and Economic Empowerment. You will bring excellent commercial credit skills and a background in leading motivated teams. The ideal candidate will also be critical thinkers - and be willing to use their skills to find unique solutions to enable growth, provide differentiated experiences, and manage loss.

  • Partner with teams to serve as an expert on credit risk
