Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

As Privacy Program Manager, you will have a broad range of responsibilities including leading the charge for operational implementation and maintenance of Square's global data protection program. You will partner with our InfoSec, engineering, product and other teams to document and ensure regulatory compliance. As we expand our offerings globally, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate impact. You will report into Privacy Counsel.

You will:

  • Help with the maintenance and updating of policies, standards, playbooks and standard operating procedures that support global privacy and data protection program goals

  • Help negotiate data sharing agreements and data transfer agreements

  • Ensure that data subject access requests are logged and responded to within the prescribed periods

  • Prepare and maintain (or ensure maintenance of) data protection program documentation, including personal data records of processing, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), data incident records; and conduct periodic compliance assessments of these

  • Support ongoing measurement and auditing on overall effectiveness of the privacy program and execution of privacy policies and standards, both internally and by vendors

  • Investigate and implement technical aids that support compliance

  • Implement appropriate privacy awareness and training resources

Qualifications

You have:

  • 3+ years of directly related experience in data protection and governance or privacy program management

  • Ability to deliver results and grow the privacy program

  • Experience with personal data and ability to develop a broad knowledge of data across the business

  • Understand data infrastructures, data collection and processing

  • Operate in a matrixed environment while meeting the clients needs

  • In-depth understanding of privacy policies, principles, and technologies and familiarity with privacy control frameworks

  • Experience navigating privacy regulations

  • Understand privacy and data protection language in legal contracts

  • Work with colleagues to brainstorm pragmatic and creative solutions

Even better:

  • CIPP and/or CIPM certification
