Senior Brand Insights Researcher, Brand Team

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and empathetic researcher to join the Square Brand Team. You will directly conduct research to connect Square with the businesses we serve. You will help us make smart, well-informed decisions to attract new customers, create better customer experiences to keep existing customers loyal, and inspire employees — by doing so, you'll support our growth. This is an exciting time to build the Square brand along with a diverse team of experts in brand insights, brand strategy, brand marketing, and media.

You will:

  • Design and execute research to support several areas, e.g., brand health tracking, marketing communications, customer experience
  • Work with Brand Team members and cross-functional partners to understand research objectives, define methodologies, and turn insights into actionable recommendations
  • Conduct research directly, using DIY research tools (e.g., Decipher, GetFeedback, and Usertesting.com): from project design and questionnaire/guide writing, to programming (if quant) or moderating (if qual), to analysis and report writing
  • Support marketing with initial insights for campaigns and message, concept, and creative testing
  • Help measure brand and product awareness, perceptions, satisfaction, NPS and other key metrics globally on an ongoing basis to identify opportunities and risks for the business
  • Help manage Square's internal DIY research tools, e.g., access management, contract evaluation/renewal, socializing and education, and identifying research tools that will best support the business
  • Champion the customer perspective and customer empathy across Square

Qualifications

You have:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience leading research projects in a professional environment, either in-house, at a research agency, or both

  • Track record of successfully conducting both quantitative and qualitative research:

    • Quantitative research skills:

      • Experience conducting survey research end-to-end, including questionnaire development, programming, sample management, data weighting, analysis, charting, and report writing
      • Expertise in using quantitative methods for market research and measurement (e.g., brand tracking, segmentation, NPS/customer satisfaction, concept testing, market sizing)
      • Expertise with direct data analysis (e.g., SPSS, Excel) and statistical techniques (e.g., regression analysis, coefficient correlation)
    • Qualitative research skills:
      • Experience designing and leading qualitative fieldwork (e.g., in-depth interviews, focus groups, ethnographies, digital diaries)
      • A willingness to get hands-on and personally recruit participants
  • Ability to translate research data and findings into actionable insights
  • Storytelling, data visualization, and presentation skills
  • Project management skills
