Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.
Finance & Strategy is responsible for improving strategic, financial, and operational decision-making across Square. Our team’s core value is trust – we build it by making what is complex simple, and we do it with analysis that is accurate and easy-to-understand. Business partners appreciate our insight and trust us to help solve difficult problems. We believe good ideas can come from anywhere, and we’ll rely on you to collaborate with others, form intelligent opinions, and present your thoughts to decision-makers and company executives.
The Square Seller business provides products and services that helps sellers start, run, and grow their businesses and participate in the economy. The foundation of our offerings is a full service, managed payments offering and extends to include point-of-sale software and services that help sellers make informed business decisions on their orders, inventory, locations, employees, and customers. We have grown rapidly to serve millions of sellers that represent a diverse set of industries and sizes, and span geographies including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Much in the same way that Square revolutionized basic payment processing, Square’s Vertical POS products are disrupting the payments and workflow systems that power more-sophisticated businesses. Our Vertical POS products are disrupting legacy on-premise solutions by providing a one-stop-shop for our sellers to both take payments and run their business, in-person and online. Today we serve restaurants, retailers and those who sell their time, and we are building a remarkable suite of products that owners can trust to serve their specialized needs, so that they can get back to focusing on what is most important: growing their business.
We are looking for an analyst to join the Finance & Strategy team that supports Vertical POS products, which includes Square for Restaurants, Square for Retail and Square Appointments. The Vertical POS teams are a fast-growing group of products that are quickly becoming an integral part of Square’s Seller business identity. You will play a critical role partnering directly with product business partners on key elements of strategic decision making, forecasting and monitoring business performance. You will also support new product and market launches, and drive key data-driven insights to improve business processes.
Apply subject matter expertise of Square’s business model to 1) create analyses that facilitate clear and timely decision making, 2) forecast performance, including short- and long-term trends, 3) surface strategic insights for business partners, and 4) help inform Square’s investment capacity across a range of functions.
Report and analyze business results and communicate key takeaways to senior stakeholders, including identifying opportunities or risks.
Manage headcount and operating expense budget processes to ensure investment allocation and resources are in alignment with Square’s strategic priorities.
Synthesize data from SQL databases and collaborate cross-functionally across Product, Marketing, Accounting, and Business Intelligence (among other teams) to understand complex relationships between key drivers of our business.
