Job Description

At Square, the developer platform team is driving the evolution of our company to an open platform that provides access to a rich ecosystem of services for our ecosystem. We are focused on enabling developers to build applications and integrations to meet the needs of a wide range of merchants to help them better run their business. And good business for them is good business for us. 

In this role, you will be responsible for the strategy, priorities, roadmap, and delivery of the developer experience. You will be responsible for tackling some of the most difficult and technical challenges on our platform. You will work closely with our most senior leaders in both engineering and product to define the investment strategy for this area. The key measure of success is creating a best-in-class developer experience on Square's platform. This is a new, critical role that will enable us to scale the services and APIs we launch in the future.

You Will:

  • Create and execute the overall strategy for amazing developer experiences that enable developers and partners to build applications on the Square platform.

  • Lead the developer experience team to take our developer portal, tools, SDKs, documentation, and sandbox to the best in class.

  • Work with our senior product and engineering leaders across many teams (Payments, Catalog, Customers, Orders, and many more) to identify the biggest opportunities for us to help developers solve big problems for small businesses.

  • Have deep developer empathy and a customer-backed mindset.

  • Influence key stakeholders throughout Square in order to align resources and prioritization.

  • Advocate on behalf of the broader developer community



  • Experience shaping and driving key strategies that have shaped the investment portfolio of a company or organization

  • Experience building developer platforms, developer portals, and ecosystems that have gained loyalty with developers.

  • Strong developer empathy and experience building products with customer-driven innovation

  • Navigated product scale challenges in a high growth environment

  • Deeply technical experience with REST and GQL APIs, SDKs, and developer productivity tools

  • Experience building and leading a high-performing organization.

  • 8+ years of product management experience or equivalent; prior experience as an engineer is desirable.

  • The ability to hire and retain the best talent in the industry, inspiring the organization on the developer experience charter.


  • Bachelor of Science or Equivalent
