Job Description

Square is committed to high standards and innovation, and our hardware is no exception. We rigorously test our hardware devices, which requires a combination of software, and various test hardware running on racks. As a Network Support Technician and Systems Administrator in our Oakland and San Francisco data centers, you will provide higher level support for our continuous integration infrastructure, and the product delivery team in Hardware. You will support and maintain our data centers and their racks, driving chronic issues towards timely resolution, while having the opportunity to work with and drive new technologies. You will be involved in the entire lifecycle, including procurement, racking of the hardware, rack architecture, and software-based tools for administrative management.

You will:

  • Configure and deploy bare-metal and virtualized Linux, Windows and MacOS systems

  • Work alongside our Network Engineers to configure and manage network connections for on-premise servers in different locales

  • Respond to and deploy security updates and develop solutions to address vulnerabilities

  • Develop and contribute to automation solutions for infrastructure configurations, host imaging, security management and more

  • Debug ambiguous failures in infrastructure and bring them to resolution with fellow engineers

  • Create a philosophy around monitoring and alerting, implement it, and continuously tune the thresholds.

Qualifications

You have:

  • Experience with Python or Ruby, Bash, and Shell scripting

  • Demonstrate a functional understanding of network routing, TCP/IP Protocols, DHCP configurations, and Git.

  • Proficiency with Linux, Windows and Mac OS

  • Experience with Configuration management and Infrastructure-as-a-Service tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc. 

  • Experience with deploy and management systems like VMware, Foreman, MaaS, or other open source tools.

  • Experience with Jenkins/CI or other test infrastructure tools, a huge plus.

  • Nice to have: Experience with off-the-shelf or open-source imaging services such as MDT, WDS, DeployStudio, JAMF, etc.
