Job Description

Square's Payment Platform is an open, global financial services platform for developers who serve our merchants. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Payment API group, leading a backend team responsible for building the payments APIs that move money for Square (check us out!). You will be involved in the technical details of building highly available and reliable services, while also working with product teams to allow Square to build new capabilities for our merchants and buyers all over the world. The team is focused on creating a reliable interface to the payments stack for 1st party and 3rd party products.

You will:

  • Guide a team of 4-7 engineers as they add to our existing APIs and build new APIs

  • Ensure continued operational excellence, supporting the team as they own and operate both public and private Payment APIs

  • Foster long-term thinking and creativity in a complex space, and promote your organization to support our business

  • Export the team's best practices to the rest of Square, and support other teams that operate high availability services and public APIs

  • Collaborate with product management, design, senior engineering and product leadership, and your peers to develop the strategy for your team

  • Develop efficient processes, ensuring the engineering team is operating with high velocity, ownership, and accountability to our customers

  • Oversee the success of your team's projects and achieve quantifiable results

Qualifications

You have: 

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical, working experience (8+ years preferred)

  • Experience designing and building backend systems

  • 2+ years of experience as a Software Engineering Manager

  • Experience with payments or public APIs is a plus but not required
