UX Writer, Seller Risk

  • San Francisco, CA
  • Employees can work remotely
  • Full-time
  • Alternate Location: Seattle, United States

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

The Seller Risk team works to protect the people that trust Square, by minimizing the financial risks that come with running a business. We keep our sellers safe while $25B+ flows through Square annually, and along the way help each other make calculated risk/reward trade offs to grow sellers, and make complicated and sometimes painful processes understandable to all.

We are looking for a Product Writer to join the Seller Risk team in delivering unique tools to our sellers that help them take more control of their own risk management—from fraud detection and mitigation to setting clear expectations with their buyers before taking payment. You will work with product designers, product managers, researchers, engineering, and legal to increase usability and ease of use across our products, but also to build the processes we will rely on to grow UX Writing as a discipline with other UX writers across the company.

You Will:

  • Be hands-on—writing and editing copy across three primary teams within Seller Risk and potential to support additional risk experiences. This includes the smallest micro copy to the most visible headlines and everything in between.
  • Promote best practices for product writing in collaboration with our other product writer on Risk and other product writers across the company.
  • Build relationships with cross-functional team members and Design Leads across the organization.
  • Partner with marketing writers to establish how our brand voice is expressed within our products.
  • Help the Product Design team become more efficient by developing processes and workflows for collaborating with product writers.
  • Apply metrics, data, design research, user testing, customer support insights, and more to inform content and language decisions.
  • Prioritize your workload of multiple projects with different collaborators.
  • Continue building a solid foundation for a growing UX writing discipline as our organization scales.

**Please submit work samples and any relevant passwords required to review**

Qualifications

  • At least (5) years of relevant professional experience
  • A portfolio with examples of previous UX writing work specifically showing how you improved user experience through language, from interface copy to style guides and beyond
  • Experience being embedded in a product design team working with Product Designers and other UX Writers
  • Comfortable providing feedback on UI/UX designs, asking thoughtful questions about product strategy, and applying insights from quantitative and qualitative research
  • Experience using design software tools like Figma and Sketch
