Hardware Engineering Program Manager

As a Hardware Engineering Program Manager for Square Hardware, you will drive complex hardware product engineering design, development, NPI build, validation, and certification activities. The Hardware EPM operates within the Engineering organization and has the technical knowledge that enables them to influence and drive cross-functional team projects through successful development to product launch.
Create a hardware development plan, schedule and budget for a complex consumer electronics payment product in partnership with engineering managers, technical leads and individual contributors.
Work with the Product Manager, Software Engineering Program Manager, Operations Program Manager and other essential program leads to coordinate cross-functional work and convergence dates.
Identify important technical risk areas and develop actionable mitigation strategies.
Communicate important developments, updates, and problems to teams and stakeholders (technical and non-technical).
Drive certification activities in partnership with regulatory and certification experts.
Discern and implement process improvements that promote self-organization and allow our engineers to make an impact.
5+ years of relevant industry experience
BS degree in ME/EE/CE or related field of study or equivalent work experience
Familiarity with JDM and CM development models and experience managing complex NPI builds
Experience with the common challenges and interdependencies in embedded systems and the cross-functional development of custom hardware.
The ability to understand and deal well with rapid development cycles and to remain flexible in the face of uncertainty.
Demonstrated experience managing trade-offs given specific constraints.
Proactive attitude with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities.
Ability to work across multiple time zones and travel internationally to Square offices and manufacturing locations.
