Chief Privacy Officer

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.
We are looking for a Global Chief Privacy Officer to lead Square’s global Privacy and Business Continuity teams. This role will manage Square’s Privacy Program, which includes setting global strategy, interfacing with regulators and public policy decision-makers, designing, developing, and implementing policies, and guiding business and product teams to ensure compliance with privacy laws. This role will also oversee the Business Continuity and Incident Response programs, which oversee business impact analyses and disaster recovery testing, crisis management planning, threat and risk assessment, data breach response, and privacy project management.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative legal advisor and business partner, with an innovative, process-oriented and practical mindset, holding deep data privacy and protection expertise who is undaunted by regulatory complexity and thrives on tackling the challenges inherent in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment. This leader will be able to successfully collaborate with stakeholders within Square, interface with key regulators, and work closely with legal, product, engineering, policy, operations, and business teams.
