Job Description

The role of the Hardware Product Marketing Manager is to define and execute go-to-market strategy based on a comprehensive understanding of the customer; to ensure that cross-functional partners (Product, Marketing, Comms, Creative, Packaging, customer-facing teams, etc.) share that understanding; and to ensure that product/business decisions incorporate our customer insights. This role will have a hybrid focus on driving product marketing strategy for Square Readers, our entry-level hardware products, while also being responsible for identifying, testing and acting on opportunities to drive growth across the hardware marketing funnel (acquisition, engagement, retention).

The ideal candidate is data-driven, strategic, analytical, well-organized and a clear written and oral communicator.

You will:

  • Understand our sellers through surveys, interviews, and product usage analyses to learn who they are, their pain points, how our products meet their needs, and what other alternatives exist 

  • Shape product positioning, value propositions and foundational messaging to be used in product development and marketing campaigns

  • Inform pricing and promotional strategy, measure performance and optimize through testing

  • Lead go-to-market activities across a cross functional team for product launches

  • Develop quarterly marketing plans to drive hardware sales, especially to newly activating sellers, and partner with channel teams to test and optimize return on marketing investment

  • Partner with Data Science to establish full-funnel reporting on KPIs and identify opportunities for funnel optimization and experimentation

  • Lead the development and performance monitoring of onboarding, activation and upsell email campaigns

  • Identify opportunities to increase customer conversion rates, and execute campaigns and A/B tests to achieve target outcomes

  • Partner with Square Shop PM to scope, design, test and roll out new features on Square Shop to drive growth 

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree, MBA a plus
  • 6+ years of professional experience with 4+ years in combination of product marketing, growth and/or lifecycle marketing, or strategy/management consulting 

  • Strong quantitative analytical ability and experience driving acquisition and retention strategy, with a focus on optimization and A/B testing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and experience influencing cross-functional teams

  • Prior experience in fintech, payments, or financial services a plus, ideally with experience marketing to SMBs

  • Genuine interest in and curiosity in helping small businesses succeed

Role Location:
