Software Engineer Manager, Accounts Security

  • Chicago, IL, USA
  • Employees can work remotely
  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a smartphone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Terminal, Square Appointments, Square Online Store, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

As an engineering leader for the Accounts Security team within our CIAM (Customer Identity and Access Management) group, you will grow a team responsible for expanding support for account creation and login protections.  This will include implementing and deploying modern account security protections (eg. 2FA, device validation, botnet detection) to ensure account security.  You will work closely with our risk and security teams to share security signals, collaborate on account security projects, and respond to security incidents.  Your team will build and maintain highly reliable, high QPSservices to support these efforts. You will report to the Head of Engineering for CIAM and work with engineers in our Seller organization.

You will:

  • Hire and manage a world-class team of experienced and passionate engineers.

  • Coach and develop engineers, cultivating pragmatic engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical & managerial expertise to constantly raise the bar.

  • Leverage your domain expertise in the realm of account security to elevate account security at Square.

  • Help set the team’s product roadmap and technical vision, and lead the team to achieve it.

  • Participate in architectural and design discussions, ensuring our platform is performant, fault tolerant, and maintainable

You have:

  • At least 2 years experience with account security, either as a manager or engineer

  • At least 2 years experience managing and mentoring engineers (including providing feedback, investing in the career growth of your team members and growing teams).

  • Experience managing a team that builds and maintains highly scalable and performant systems

  • Experience with incident response, including disaster recovery

  • Eagerness to share your own ideas, and openness to those of others.

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical, working experience (4+ years preferred)
