Job Description

Block is seeking a full-time Threat Analyst based in San Francisco or Oakland; or working remotely in the U.S. on Block’s Protective Intelligence Team, within the Trust & Safety team. This position will focus on identifying and assessing threats to Block's most valuable assets to include Spiral (formerly Square Crypto) and will assist Protective Intelligence in addressing a high volume of concerns in a rapidly changing threat environment, in addition to conducting research and investigations into potential concerns. This position will also have cross functional responsibilities within the pre-employment screening program, focusing on compliance and privacy review. This role will interface with Legal, HR, Compliance, Trust and Safety, Public Policy and external industry partners. 

You will: 

  • Conduct research, analyze qualitative data, reach conclusions, and make recommendations on threat investigative cases.

  • Utilize commercial databases and open source investigative tools.

  • Assess validity and capability of risks and triage based on solid prioritization skills.

  • Synthesize investigative data and findings with general trend research to provide threat/risk context for stakeholders. 

  • Monitor and triage threats identified by social listening tools.

  • Monitor, identify, and analyze global political and security risks to determine their impact on and relevance to Block’s platforms and users around the world.

  • Draft, design, and disseminate professionally written products to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide operational support with pre-employment background investigations as required

  • Manage pre-employment caseload and ensure requests are scrutinized and handled in strict accordance with applicable local, state, federal and country specific guidelines as required

  • Meet compliance requirements of Block’s strategic business and regulatory partners

  • Work with various teams across Block, including Legal and HR on adjudications

  • Communicate effectively and tactfully with key stakeholders at all levels of the company.

Qualifications

  • Experience with social listening and monitoring tools.
  • Minimum 3-5+ years conducting online and open source investigations, security analysis, or investigations; formal training preferred. 

  • Experience creating and refining advanced search queries.

  • Minimum educational requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree. 

  • Understanding of global geopolitical and social issues and threats to/from different regions of the world.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
