As Head of Engineering for Square Banking, you will lead the entire global banking engineering team of over 100 engineers and managers in furtherance of our core purpose. You will partner with the global banking leadership team to build remarkable financial services experiences for our customers and to drive toward a global architecture that enables us to rapidly expand our growing suite of banking products into new international markets. This impactful and visible role requires a leader who can build a long-term vision for the space, inspire the team, drive execution, and establish credibility and influence across Square’s ecosystem of products. You will:

• Guide long-term thinking and innovation in an ambiguous space, and promote your organization to support our business

• Work with the Head of Product as well as Stakeholders to manage the balance of tech debt vs. strategic investment to achieve our goals over a multi-year roadmap

• Hire and develop your leaders and engineers, helping them grow and support the product and platform strategy

• Lead planning and resource allocation for the Banking engineering organization 

• Develop efficient processes, ensuring the engineering team is operating with high velocity, ownership, and self-accountability.

• Inspire the team to maintain high standards of technical and operational excellence while influencing other technical leaders within the company.

• Cultivate an inclusive team culture focused on ownership, integrity with and a customer focus   

• Report into the General Manager of Square Banking

You have:

• 15+ years relevant software development and systems design experience

• 8+ years of experience as a Software Development Manager; 5+ years managing managers 

• Experience leading large software services that have successfully been delivered to customers 

• Excellent attention to detail and are highly organized and results-driven leader

• Experience working on user-facing products, developer tooling or platform

• Excellent communication skills and can articulate a strategy in a concise manner to  to ensure Stakeholders feel included, informed, and aligned on expectations
