Our team focuses on helping smaller retailers meet their customers wherever they are, be that in store, online, on social or messaging platforms. In store, we see the Point of Sale expanding from checkout to take on inventory management and clienteling features - even helping to manage incoming online orders. We’re addressing the desire for clean and minimalist store counters with intuitive yet sophisticated iOS, Android, and Web-based software that integrates seamlessly with our sleek hardware, all backed by highly reliable services.

As an Engineering Manager on the Retail team, you will drive technical direction, managing product goals, contributing to product strategy, and growing and developing your team. You will work with leaders across the company and work with outstanding product managers and designers. Most importantly, you'll do it all in the service of our customers in the retail business.

You will: 

• Lead your team in creating beautiful, unique products which allow retail sellers to thrive
• Own the success of your team's product and deliver results
• Build systems, services, and product features across multiple platforms that have immediate impact for restaurants
• Grow the engineers on your team through delegation, support, and mentorship
• Use your technical expertise to coach and guide your team, challenging them to learn and improve You'll envision new products and features that are inspired, considered, and magical
• Work closely and collaboratively with experienced designers, product managers, and engineers; both on our team and with our friends on other teams
• Grow as a manager and as an engineer, and lift those around you as you do

You have:

• 8 or more years of professional software development experience
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or an equivalent degree)
• Natural curiosity and a desire to build beautiful, intuitive products for the food and drink service industry
• Experience leading and building a team of experienced software engineers
• A strong sense of ownership and urgency
• A passion for mentoring engineers and teaching colleagues
• Desire to ship reliable, elegant apps and products
• Empathy for the challenges of retail sellers, and for your colleagues at Square
• Eagerness to share your ideas, and openness to those of others
• Partnered with co-workers on other teams and in other locations
