Team Description: Globalization 

Globalization engineering team is responsible for building tools & services that help accelerate Square’s global expansion. We build platform tools & services that have outsized benefits and enable other teams at Square to iterate faster. This team is the face of global presence for Square and helps automate any localization needs in the company.  This team partners closely with the rest of the globalization team, product, marketing and customer success teams to make sure our products and content work seamlessly in all languages/locales, so that we can meet our global customer needs — today and tomorrow.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for driving initiatives from inception through execution. You will be in the unique position of having your customers be all the product teams at Square and any stakeholder who rely on the tools and services that your team builds. This position will require deep globalization engineering knowledge, strategic thinking, methodical execution, and superb stakeholder management. You will own the details of the solution from deep in the stack through the global end user experience in partnership with design and product. 

You will: 

• Build and lead an engineering team (including full-stack engineers) focused on internationalization and localization technologies.Provide technical mentorship to the rest of the globalization team as well as other cross-functional partners.

• Build and drive adoption of internationalization frameworks and best practices that enable global-first products, content and design across Square, as well as localization platforms and tools that deliver natively localized user experience at scale.

• Build relationships with multiple stakeholders across the company including product, design, legal, accounting, support, other engineering teams and external vendors.

• Lead and participate in critical technical design, and product discussions with leaders across the organization.

• Represent the globalization technology perspectives in strategic conversations about global growth and business impact. Invest in long term opportunities and risks to ensure solid platforms and infrastructures for today and the future across markets.

You have:

• Technical expertise in creating internationalization engineering services for other engineer teams and building scalable localization tools for diverse content types full-stack engineering.

• Knowledge of software development practices, localization testing, content management systems (CMS) and translation management systems (TMS).

• An excellent track record in delivering global products, and understanding of localization challenges.

• Experience building and leading teams of accomplished software engineers. A passion for mentoring engineers and teaching colleagues.

• Experience turning strategies and plans into reality, partnering with product and design to scope and prioritize work.

• Ability to work autonomously to drive clarity in ambiguous situations.

• Strong empathy for the global merchants that Square serves and an interest in building products that better serve them.
