Job Description

The Role

At Afterpay, Strategic Partnerships manages the end-to-end development and deployment of Afterpay’s Partnership strategy. This includes working with our product development, sales, marketing, finance, strategy, risk, and legal teams to evaluate and scope potential partnerships and negotiate contracts with external parties. You will be naturally curious and embrace the challenge of finding novel partnerships to expand Afterpay’s distribution, partnership targets, and ways to drive revenue and growth. An understanding of the economics of the payments space is required but deep experience in FinTech is not necessary to be successful in this role. We relish fresh ideas and perspectives to help Afterpay unlock its potential, and we embrace unique approaches to problem-solving and goal achievement. You will have plenty of experience evaluating market dynamics all while sourcing, scoping, negotiating, managing, and growing partner relationships. You will be very comfortable interacting, presenting to, and persuading executives both internally and externally to help accomplish Afterpay's long-term vision. Ideally, you have existing relationships and experience working with MNOs (mobile network operators) and/or streaming platforms, but this is not a requirement for success in this role. A deep sense of ownership, drive, and entrepreneurship is essential.

You will:

  • Source, evaluate, execute and drive partnerships with current and prospective strategic partners

  • Consistently manage partnership success and develop and execute growth strategies to adequately scale partnerships

  • Act as Afterpay’s strategic partnerships category expert for MNOs (mobile network operators), among other categories to be defined

  • Cultivate executive relationships with strategic partners to optimize partnership performance and uncover new ways to drive value for Afterpay

  • Work cross-functionally with teams across the Afterpay and Block organizations, including Sales, Product, Marketing, Engineering, Finance, Risk, Compliance, and other partnership teams within the Block ecosystem

  • Liaise regularly with the Cash App and Square teams to co-architect Strategic Partnerships that leverage the combined power of the Block portfolio

  • Help evolve the strategic partnerships discipline at Afterpay, ensuring ongoing success of the team and its contribution to the broader Block ecosystem.

  • 5-7+ years strategic partnerships or business development experience that includes technical integrations.

  • A successful history of managing complex deals and cross-functional partnerships.

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting & exceeding KPIs and targets

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build executive relationships

  • Excellent organizational & time management skills

  • Leadership skills to work autonomously, work fast and smart, and effectively influence others.

  • A high level of enthusiasm and energy

  • A proactive and curiosity-driven approach to finding solutions to problems

  • Willingness to travel (primarily domestically but sometimes internationally) for both internal and external meetings and conferences.

  • BS/BA required; MBA or Masters degree a plus
