Product Marketing Manager

  • Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan
  • Full-time

Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

We are looking for a senior level Product Marketing Manager (PMM) in Japan to be the in-market expert on our developer platform and API products. Reporting to the International Developer PMM Lead, you will have responsibility to increase growth in the Japanese market and drive our go-to market strategy development and execution for the developer platform in market.

The PMM role at Square is responsible for driving global growth and adoption of our products. We do this by identifying which customer segments we can serve, understanding their needs, and using those insights to directly influence our product strategy and roadmap. We determine product positioning and messaging, develop full-funnel growth strategies, and build acquisition campaigns to grow our business. We collaborate with multiple teams to ensure we build the right products and reach the right customers, with the right messages, through the right channels, at the right time.

You Will:

  • Identify and segment target developers, their pain points and needs through qualitative and quantitative research, and solutions to meet those needs

  • Develop use cases for new products that will inform overall marketing strategy

  • Work with product managers, engineers, and the entire developer platform team to ensure that we build the right product for local developers

  • Develop product positioning, value propositions, and important messaging to be used in product development and marketing campaigns throughout the developer journey

  • Drive the go-to-market plan and post-launch marketing programs with marketing channel managers, account managers, and sales

  • Collaborate with copy and design teams to develop marketing creatives

  • Track campaign performance and optimize through continuous testing

  • Review local competitor products and marketing, and drive ongoing difference

  • Ensure all marketing materials undergo appropriate legal and compliance review

  • Support cross-functional marketing team initiatives

You Have:

  • 5+ years working in a product marketing capacity or alternatively, 3+ years experience working in product management for a marketing-related product.

  • Fluent Japanese and business English

  • You have worked closely with product management and/or engineering to represent market requirements, and with channel managers to support product launches and ongoing campaign optimization.

  • Previous background in B2B or B2C marketing, with exposure to developer marketing and developer communities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Comfort with ambiguity and resilient when facing rapid change
