Job Description

As a machine learning engineer on the Marketing ML team, you will lead projects that drive Square’s growth. Sending the right marketing messages to the right Sellers is critical to ensuring that our sellers have remarkable, personalized experiences and that every marketing dollar gets the maximum possible return on investment. Our team achieves these goals by leveraging machine learning and deep learning across marketing channels such as Display, Paid Search, Social, Direct Mail, and more. Success of our machine learning models has a proven track record of providing value for our marketing stakeholders, improving the experience of our sellers, and driving Square’s business forward through customer growth. 

Our algorithms obtain value from our unique, rich, and growing data. We partner with business, product, operations and engineering teams to guide better decisions, automated and human, using machine learning. We’re a passionate team of specialists, statisticians, and optimizers who are resourceful in distilling questions, wrangling data, and driving impactful business decisions.

You Will:

  • Develop scalable machine learning solutions for improving the seller experience and performance of Square’s marketing initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and other MLEs to train, deploy, and test machine learning models using state-of-the-art techniques.

  • Help build the next generation of data products at Square.


You Have: 

  • 4-5 years of relevant industry experience

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.

  • Ability to produce scalable and robust production-quality code incorporating testing, evaluation, and monitoring.

  • Experience with ML-driven marketing (e.g. interfacing with ad exchanges, attribution modeling, ROI analyses, budget projection/allocation) is a strong plus but not required. 

  • Ability to partner closely with cross functional stakeholders, and explain complex technical concepts in a clear and easy-to-understand way.
