Engineering Manager - Data Inventory, Visibility & Attestation

  • Full-time
  • Alternate Location: Seattle, United States

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Loans, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

You will:

  • Lead a team of software engineers working on tools and infrastructure to support data classification and visibility initiatives across Block’s engineering ecosystem
  • Partner with your team and teams across privacy, security and/or infrastructure engineering teams to develop the strategy and roadmap for data visibility at Block.
  • Cultivate pragmatic engineering decision-making by fostering inclusive conversations and leveraging your technical expertise to constantly raise the bar.
  • Grow the team by coaching engineers, promoting quality, and hiring new talent that complements the existing skills on the team.
  • Work in any Block office location or remotely in the USA or Canada. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience directly managing software engineers, including hiring, coaching, and managing performance.

  • Defining organizational engineering strategies to cover a non-homogeneous data environment
  • Data infrastructure technologies, such as Amundsen, Confluence, Kafka, etc.
