Technical Partnerships Lead

  • Full-time

Company Description

TBD is Block's newest, emerging business unit- focused on building a future where every individual can access and participate in the global economy. The TBD team is on a mission to lead by example, inspiring the world to invest in & collaborate on open source standards and permissionless technologies for the public good. Join us as we build a financial system accessible for anyone who wants to participate.

Job Description

As Technical Partnerships Lead, you will develop and manage TBD's ecosystem of open source and technical partners. You will work closely with TBD's Open Source Engineering and Decentralized Identity teams with the goal of building open source and commercial relationships that advance TBD’s mission: inviting the world to join us in building and adopting open and decentralized technologies that solve real problems for real people.

The partners you develop relationships with will range from open source platforms and startups to global companies in the technology and financial services sectors. What they will have in common is alignment with TBD’s vision: a decentralized future that returns ownership and control over finances, data, and identity to individuals.

Guided by this vision, TBD is building infrastructure that enables everyone to access and participate in the global economy; TBD’s Technical Partnerships Lead will play a key role in identifying, developing, and executing partnerships with the ecosystem players necessary to achieve this vision.

You likely found success as an engineer, but evolved into a senior, strategic role where you bridged the worlds of engineering and business – such as engineering partnerships, solutions architect, or another role where you applied your technical skills to commercial relationships. You thrive making sense of ambiguity, and have experience negotiating commercial contracts for strategic partnerships in the developer facing or open source worlds.

You have advanced open source and/or developer ecosystems. And you have an active interest in blockchain and decentralized technologies, and are passionate about bringing the benefits of crypto technologies to mainstream audiences.

You will report directly to TBD’s co-founder and Head of Business, Strategy and Operations.

You Will:

  • Develop and manage TBD's ecosystem of open source and technical partners, and the strategic playbook for technical partnerships that advance TBD’s vision and mission.
  • Build and manage a robust ecosystem of partners who:
    • are aligned with TBD’s vision of returning ownership and control over finances, data, and identity to individuals;
    • can meaningfully contribute to the open source standards, platforms, protocols, tools, and ecosystem that TBD is building (e.g., tbDEX protocol - see blog and whitepaper);
    • are willing to adopt and guide TBD's open and decentralized technology solutions in order solve real problems for real people, including financial empowerment use cases.
  • Collaborate with TBD’s Open Source and Developer Relations leads to educate and promote TBD's open source projects, solutions, and use cases to ecosystem players that have the potential to become meaningful strategic and commercial partners to TBD.
  • Surface partner’s requirements to business and engineering leadership such that technical products and projects meet real-world needs. Understands the balance to strike in incorporating partner feedback and protecting TBD’s scope.
  • Collaborate with TBD’s Business and Legal leads in furtherance of partnerships to set industry standards around crypto, payments, decentralized identity.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • A minimum of 10-15+ years of experience
  • Background that involves both engineering / technical experience and either:
    • Business experience in the areas of partnerships, business development, sales; or
    • Field experience that involves bridging the technical and business worlds (for example: engineering partnerships, solutions architect, technical sales, or another role that bridges technical expertise with strategic / business impact)
  • Strategic thinker who has strong conceptual and analytical skills to produce insights and recommendations around partnership and ecosystem strategy
  • Excellent communication skills to engage and influence senior leaders
  • Deep experience managing nuanced business development processes and negotiating contracts with strategic partners (memorandum of understanding, definitive agreements, etc.) - where the experience involved navigating partnership strategy, negotiating business contracts, and driving cross-functional execution
  • Strong cross-functional project management skills and track record of working with cross-functional partners at a senior (executive) level, both internally and externally
  • Knowledge of open source and/or developer ecosystems, and prior experience developing relationships within these communities
  • Interest in decentralized technologies and blockchain
