Job Description

At Afterpay, the credit risk team is playing a key role in promoting responsible spending, and helping customers keep control of their finances. Credit risk management is also critical for keeping the business profitable. As a credit risk decision scientist,  you’ll be responsible for leveraging quantitative analysis and decision trees to build strategies for a balanced outcome of user experience and loss performance. You will communicate the recommendations to stakeholders, and work closely with the product/engineer team to drive the implementation of solutions.

Here are a few workstreams we’re currently hiring for


BNPL Credit
You will be leading the efforts to optimize Afterpay credit risk strategies through quantitative analysis. Through your work you will empower the team to understand the financial performance of Afterpay BNPL portfolio, optimize our decisioning pipeline using machine learning techniques, and help identify new opportunities for growth in customer base and engagement. You will experiment with various analytics/quantitative solutions on our comprehensive customer data and see your proposal/idea through to production by partnering cross-functionally with product, data science, marketing, operations and engineering teams. This role is best suited to someone with prior experience in the consumer credit or lending space. 


Recovery and Collection
You will be responsible for optimization of recovery and collection strategies for consumer lending product by leveraging quantitative analysis and machine learning techniques. Through your work, you will closely monitor recovery KPIs, analyze loss trends and propose strategy enhancements to optimize payment performance, optimize our internal communication and payment scheduler strategies, and assess the effectiveness of our collection partners, improve referral logic that minimize costs and maximize benefits. You will also have the opportunity to design and implement experiments to drive strategy enhancements and reveal new insights. You will also work closely with our operation partners to support day to day tasks and needs. 


Product Risk Strategy
You'll collaborate with engineers and product managers and help them shape the product strategy. You will be responsible for optimizing the product losses by leveraging advanced analytics and modeling techniques. You will be responsible for designing and measuring AB test experiments to optimize the credit strategies for the product. You will create self-serving dashboards to closely track product KPIs, risk exposure and loss trends for easy consumption by key stakeholders

Qualifications

You have:

  • 3+ years relevant working experience
  • A graduate degree in Computer Science, AI, ML, Applied Math, Stats, Physics, or a related quantitative field
  • Worked with Product, Design, and Engineering to prioritize, scope, design, and deploy strategy solutions
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Self-driven with a sense of ownership 
     

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800
