Job Description

As the Head of Design for Square's Seller Experience team, you’ll help build discovery, onboarding, and engagement experiences that empower our sellers throughout their entire lifecycle with Square. You’ll leverage automation in partnership with design systems to surface the best products and services to our sellers at the right times. You’ll find creative ways to integrate help and support channels throughout the journey, in addition to improving internal tooling for employees to better message and serve our customers. You’ll be a champion for consistency throughout the evaluation experience, bringing clarity and transparency to Square’s ever growing ecosystem of products .

As the Head of Design for Seller Experience, you’ll report directly to the Head of Automation and Growth and partner with the Seller Experience executive team to inform the roadmap, and improve cohesion across the organization and in turn all of Square's product ecosystem. You will lead a diverse team of 20+ managers, product designers, marketing designers, researchers, writers, and production designers. You will provide guidance of their output, facilitating cross-functional partnerships across the entire company and implementing design processes. You will promote a world-class design practice, influence product strategy, and ensure design execution throughout your organization. As a Head of Design, you'll provide mentorship and champion the craft and career development of your team, while creating a safe haven so designers can accomplish their best work.

Additionally, you will be part of our overall design leadership team at Square and be a core driver of decisions improving the entirety of design and creative disciplines at Square. You will partner with other Heads of Design peers throughout Square to establish best practices and operations for the discipline.

You Will:

  • Manage a team of 20+ providing direction, pushing the quality of the work, and inspiring a healthy design culture
    Influence the overarching strategy for Seller Experience team, in collaboration with executive leadership peers
    Build relationships with team members from Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Data Science and speak to product strategy, design goals, and execution
    Drive design discipline-wide conversations and create deliverables on how to improve process, operations, and tools throughout all of Square


  • At least 12 years of relevant professional experience and 4+ years of people management
  • You have led teams that have contributed to high impact projects for your company
  • You have experience effectively collaborating and maintaining relationships with a large range of stakeholders across an entire company
  • Experience managing a diverse team including managers, product designers, marketing designers, researchers, writers, and production designers exhibiting ability to build, mentor, and motivate them
  • A diverse portfolio of work that illustrates your ability to have impact and lead at the project level, product level, organization level, and company level.
  • Experience breaking down company-level goals to help teams across multiple products create remarkable design experiences
  • ​​​​​​​You Implement and lead processes that solve difficult problems and influence across an ecosystem of products
