Job Description

We are looking for a Global Policy and Governance Lead to join Square's team of Compliance executives. You have deep experience building and managing compliance governance and risk management departments and establishing policy and program standards for global financial services companies. You will help grow and evolve the Square Compliance Governance team ( company-wide training, board reporting, audits and examinations, second line testing and monitoring, risk assessments, regulatory change management, and vendor management) and you will help develop the Compliance team's overarching program standards by leading the team's global policy functions (sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, consumer and credit policy). You will build a cohesive team vision and culture, manage a team of accomplished compliance professionals, and work with Square's executive Compliance leadership team, reporting to Block's Global Chief Compliance Officer.

Our employment model is distributed, offering the opportunity to work with teams across the world. This role can be based in any of our US offices or remotely in the United States. Flexibility to travel and work across time zones is required.

You Will:

  • Set the Compliance Governance strategy, developing the team further and mentoring Senior Compliance Leads
  • Manage all Board reporting for Compliance, including evolution of global reporting standards, with your peers and senior leadership
  • Oversee the successful execution of our second-line testing and monitoring group, providing the team strategic direction and consultation on the development of the program, control weaknesses and resulting risk exposure, and advising on regulatory impact/expectations across multiple subject areas and jurisdictions
  • Provide insights to senior management on the health of the Compliance program, tracking essential risk indicators and employing quantitative risk management methods, to make decisions and identify opportunities for principled risk-taking that propels growth safely and scalably
  • Direct the team's responsibilities for our role in all regulatory examinations, audits, and independent assessments through appropriate socialization of our program, management of engagement, and tracking, remediation and reporting of results
  • Execute the enterprise-wide and product-specific risk assessments, with a focus on qualitative and dynamic approaches
  • Ensure the team improves our standards for policies and related procedural and guidance documents, through the design and implementation of a holistic policy management program
  • Help develop an improved regulatory change management framework, working with Regulatory Counsel, to ensure the Compliance organization is informed about and can implement changes across our programs
  • Build upon our third-party risk management infrastructure, working with Procurement, Privacy, and Legal teams to determine strategy, processes and solutions
  • Work with our global policy leads (Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Consumer and Credit Risk) to build and evolve the team's foundational policy and program standards for each of these essential regulatory risk areas

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 8+ years of compliance experience in financial services, with a preference toward some Fintech experience and working in global firms
  • Executive experience building AML/CTF, sanctions, and ABAC compliance programs
  • Team management, minimum of 5 years experience, and an ability to manage to senior leadership internal and external to Square
  • Clear business writing skills
  • Experience setting goals for a team and working on long-term vision
  • Experience in program management, communication, partner management and experience with experience achieving engagement from all partners
  • Experience handling complex regulatory and programmatic matters
