Job Description

The purpose of the Finance & Strategy Analyst is to act as a finance business partner to the EU Finance & Strategy team, with a focus on supporting Sales and Marketing teams. The role will be influential in driving key business decisions and operational outcomes through providing commercial and financial insights.

  • Financial Analysis

    • Perform critical and in-depth financial analysis on weekly, monthly, half-yearly and annual financial results for the EU business, identifying and assessing underlying trends and forecast opportunities and risks. 

    • Partner with the EU Sales and Marketing line of business to gain insights into underlying trends and enable data-driven decisions that inform performance, specifically underlying sales, merchant margin, platform revenue share, contribution margin and campaign ROI. Identify key value drivers to optimise business performance.

    • Provide ongoing analysis and insights on merchants including merchant portfolio composition and pricing. Similarly, provide detailed analysis and insights into marketing spend and effectiveness, customer frequency and drivers, and optimisation of marketing investment.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting

    • Working with the UK & EU Head of Finance & Strategy, provide key insights into performance to inform the annual budget and quarterly forecast for EU, with specific focus on Sales and Marketing. Identify risks and opportunities against targets.

    • Utilise Sales inputs via a CRM tool to maintain a live pipeline and topline forecast for the EU business. Make critical decisions regarding key inputs and assumptions that drive the forecast.

  • Strategic Planning

    • Assist the UK & EU Head of Finance & Strategy, Head of Sales, and Head of Marketing to develop strategic financial planning scenarios with a view to achieving the objectives of Clearpay EU and Afterpay globally 

    • Provide financial support to business leaders in developing and executing operational initiatives and business cases that drive performance.

  • Performance Management

    • Deliver reports which assess overall performance against budget and strategic plan financial targets.

    • Provide key insights on variances to budget and strategic plan targets to improve performance.

    • Use strong financial analysis and modelling skills to develop creative solutions to complex business issues to support decision making.

    • Develop business cases for key investment to drive business performance and ensure ROI on spend aligns to expectations.

    • Leverage ERP systems to review marketing spend on an ongoing basis to ensure alignment with budget and enable accurate monthly accruals 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role would be an investment banker or professional services (Big4) Corporate Finance / Deal Advisory / Transaction Services profile with 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience and strong modelling skills and commercial acumen.

More specifically, you’ll have experience in and be passionate about:

  • 2-4 years’ experience in a senior analyst role in either an investment bank or professional services firm, or in a corporate acting as a business partner to sales and/or marketing. 

  • Advanced financial modelling skills and corporate modelling experience, with a background in investment banking or an advisory division of a professional services firm would be well regarded.

  • Experience in forecasting, financial analysis and understanding key performance indicators critical.

  • Experience in a retail and technology and/or listed company with global operations would be highly regarded.

  • Core competency with Microsoft products, especially Excel modelling and PowerPoint presentations vital; experience with ERP and CRM systems well regarded.

  • Fluency in English is a core requirement; other EU languages (especially Spanish) would be highly regarded.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or equivalent university degree in Finance, Accounting, or related business field, or MBA.

  • Post-graduate qualifications highly regarded.
