Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic, articulate and persuasive commercial attorney to support the growth of our business, leading Block’s enterprise revenue legal function for North America.  The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator, a competitive negotiator, have great judgment, and understand how to effectively provide legal advice in a fast-paced environment.  An interest in our consumer-driven product and e-commerce is a must.

Core Competencies include: commercial counsel experience, contract negotiation, people management experience, creative problem-solving skills, and supporting B2B sales team initiatives.

You will report to the Head of Legal, Global Enterprise Sales.

You will:

  • lead Block’s enterprise revenue legal function for North America, working with the sales team to close key deals and accelerate the growth of our business;

  • draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements to help facilitate productive partnerships with our merchants, vendors and partners; and

  • work on strategic global legal projects relating to the development of new products, troubleshooting problems, and launching initiatives designed to mitigate operational redundancies.

Qualifications

You have:

  • a J.D. with a state bar membership in good standing;

  • 12-15 years of combined relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies and/or in-house legal departments;

  • prior in-house experience (fintech experience preferred but not required);

  • 3+ years experience managing a team;

  • excellent commercial negotiation and drafting skills;

  • experience supporting B2B sales team initiatives

  • highly developed communication and interpersonal skills; and

  • the ability to think “outside the box” and balance legal risk with business objectives.
