Job Description

The Orders team is on a mission to enable sellers to reach their customers anywhere and power seamless experiences across our ecosystem. We’re striving to build an Orders platform that empowers both our flagship product teams and third-party developers to support our sellers and help them reach buyers in new innovative ways.

The Orders API Core team is in charge of delivering the primary API for enabling this vision on our new platform (while also shipping the Orders API for public usage by third party developers). This is a massive undertaking with huge challenges. We have a wide range of sellers and developers with many different needs, and to meet those needs, we work with many stakeholder teams at Square in navigating dependencies and intertwined technical / product ambiguities. As we scale to more sellers, we also have new obstacles to overcome on performance and reliability.

You will:

  • Collaborate with Product Management, senior leadership, multiple teams across Square, and your peers throughout Orders to drive the engineering strategy for your team

  • Develop efficient processes, ensuring the engineering team is operating with high velocity, ownership, and accountability 

  • Build an outstanding team by coaching engineers, encouraging engineering decision-making, and applying your technical expertise to hold your team to high engineering standards

  • Guide the team in evolving our systems to be more robust and reliable


You have:

  • 4+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager

  • Experience leading deliver of large software services that have successfully been delivered to customers 

  • Complete platform API lifecycle experience (inception through sunset & replacement)

  • (Bonus) Familiarity with developing public APIs to external developers
