Job Description

The Global Strategic Enterprise organization is the backbone and growth engine of Block’s Enterprise Sales Business. We lead the strategy and operations for Cash App’s and Afterpay’s existing payments businesses and commercialize the emerging products that will drive future revenue.  Our ambitious team develops go-to-market strategy for our commercial products, builds and grows effective partnerships with the largest brands in the world, and sells our existing products into new verticals. We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Business Operations Lead to lead a team driving critical results across the Afterpay and Cash App payments business. 

The Strategy and Business Operations team lead will develop data-based insights that maximize the effectiveness of Cash App and Afterpay’s Business Development, Partner Success and Emerging Business teams. You will develop data-based insights to optimize our current commercial businesses and build go-to-market strategies for emerging business lines. You’ll set and track progress against strategic goals and deliver recommendations on key decisions to senior leadership. You’ll report into the Head of the Global Strategic Enterprise organization and partner closely with Block’s Enterprise leadership team as well as cross-functional leads.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing strategy teams, advising senior leadership, and leveraging quantitative and qualitative information to develop business strategy. This leader should know how to coordinate effectively with internal cross-functional partners and have deep expertise in business economics and P&Ls. 

You will:

  • Set strategic priorities: Conduct analyses that establish the strategic priorities for the Afterpay and Cash App payments businesses, impacting product development, resourcing, budgeting, partnership models, and sales targets, among others.

  • Operationalize insights: Identify key metrics, measure progress against goals, and create processes that turn analysis into action. Surface digestible data-based insights and real-time reporting that inform key leadership decisions and drive growth across our business. 

  • Commercialize product and optimize partnerships: Develop commercial strategy for emerging products and sales verticals by analyzing business opportunities, identifying competitive dynamics, and synthesizing internal and external data. Lead complex analyses that improve our existing partnerships and define deal strategy.

  • Manage high performers: Develop, coach, and motivate a team of business operations and strategy leaders supporting the Global Strategic Enterprise organization and our current and emerging businesses.

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives: Establish yourself as the go-to strategy and business operations voice for the Global Strategic Enterprise organization. Collaborate with leadership across business development, sales, partner success, finance, data science and analytics, product development, and marketing.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of strategy and business operations experience, including significant time in a leadership role, preferably in both management consulting and a fast-moving technology company. 

  • Business acumen and a strong understanding of product strategy. You excel at identifying business opportunities and navigating commercial challenges, and you are an adept problem solver. 

  • Ability to communicate and craft compelling narratives to influence internal and external stakeholders across diverse teams and levels. You are experienced at building trusted relationships with executive and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical stills. You effectively model, manipulate data, and leverage analytics tools to develop strategic priorities.

  • A track record of building and scaling high-performing business operations and strategy teams. 

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and within a dynamic organization. You have a sense of ownership and independently drive strategic projects from ideation to execution.

  • BS/BA required; MBA or Masters degree is a plus

  • Proficiency with SQL, Salesforce, Tableau, and Mode is a plus
