Job Description
As a Data Engineer on the Marketing Data Engineering team, you will join an organization whose mandate is to build and maintain foundational data infrastructure essential to driving Square’s revenue growth and accelerating seller acquisition. You will work closely with Global Marketing teams and Go-To-Market teams at Square to build best-in-class data pipelines and processes that stitch together complex sets of data stores and drive large investment decisions. You are a self-starter and you are comfortable with ambiguity and working cross-functionally with other teams across Square. Your work will have a direct impact on hundreds of stakeholders at Square.
You Will:
Partner with various stakeholders in Content Web, Creative Strategy teams and various Marketing business partners to understand their data and reporting requirements and identify the right data sets to work on, and translate them into technical requirements and implement scalable solutions
Design, develop and maintain critical data pipelines and data marts to ensure highly accurate and reliable business reporting that adheres to best practices
Understand business context and translate stakeholder needs into ETL requirements and visualizations
Provide operational support by troubleshooting technical issues and data discrepancies, and execute ad-hoc requests
Analyze new data sources and work with stakeholders to understand the impact of integrating new data into existing pipelines and models
Develop data model and make ETL code improvements to improve pipeline efficiency and data quality
Manage and drive quarterly bulk deploy process
Qualifications
You Have:
5+ years working experience in data engineering or similar discipline preferably supporting Marketing organizations
Proficient in ETL development and data modeling concepts and implementation
Expertise in SQL and data analysis, especially within cloud-based data warehouses like Snowflake, Google BigQuery, and Amazon Redshift
Experience designing medium-to-large data engineering solutions and responsible for the entire lifecycle of projects including design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation
Strong business intuition and ability to understand complex business systems
Excellent communication skills, particularly when explaining technical matters to less technical co-workers
Strong project management leadership skills
Working experience with Python
Experience with ETL scheduling technologies with dependency checking, such as Airflow or Prefect
Experience with Linux/OSX command line, version control software (git)
BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or a related technical field
Even Better:
Experience working with Ruby on Rails
Experience with data visualization technologies such as Looker
Experience ingesting, managing and troubleshooting web data
Familiarity with SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
