Security Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure (GCP)

As a Security Engineer, GCP Cloud Infrastructure, you will contribute to the hardening of Block’s cloud computing and cloud network environments. Your work will secure critical sensitive data and services which power our offerings.
We’re looking for someone with both a broad knowledge of security and systems, as well as experience or interest in cloud computing. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in security engineering and experience with modern cloud computing practices.
Collaborate and contribute to the design of GCP security services. This includes maintaining or creating API-driven services/systems.
Work closely with the infrastructure and product teams who are using GCP, and ensure that they have secure-by-default systems by promoting security best practices.
Work towards the discovery and remediation of security threats to reduce risk in Block’s cloud infrastructure.
2+ years total experience in tech.
Proficiency with at least one of or equivalent (Python, Go. and/or Ruby)
You work well in software-driven and large-scale environments.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to improve the offerings of our services.
At least 1-year of experience working in cloud security (does not need to be on GCP).
Strong foundational knowledge of Cloud Security and secured by default methodologies.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code domain-specific languages, such as Terraform.
Experience writing code to solve security issues. This could be writing security tools or automation/management of security-sensitive environments.
Familiarity with securing Linux systems - hardening, logging/detection, general systems design.
Networking knowledge, including network security and segmentation.
Experience working closely with Infrastructure Teams.
Experience working with SIEMs.
Experience working with PII and regulated environments.
Experience with Kubernetes.
You work well cross-functionally and can communicate with audiences who may not have a security background.
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
