Job Description

The Afterpay Risk and Data Science team here at Cash App is delivering data science solutions that enable data driven insights for customers and commercial outcomes. We are building our tech teams in Melbourne, San Francisco and Shanghai. We’re team players, committed to fast-paced quality work, and we’re looking for people who are keen to be part of something new as it rapidly grows to sky-high limits.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Program Manager to drive planning, build processes and enable our teams to build and deliver great products on time and at scale for the Risk & Data Data Science department. You will work with cross-functional teams and be responsible for managing deliverables, identifying and mitigating risks, ensuring communication, and influencing decisions. You are an ambassador across Block, setting standards for decision making, collaboration, ownership mindset, and efficiency. 

You will also need to be flexible with working hours since your Engineering partners will be all in different time zones across AU, US, CN, EU regions.

You Will

  • Continuously drive product optimization and innovation for Credit Risk, Fraud, Data Science Machine Learning/Feature Platforms by working with technical and non-technical stakeholders closely.
  • Streamline processes, simplify execution, release on time, bring tooling and efficiencies and help teams execute
  • Lead technical delivery of key change initiatives in the Risk & Data Science Domain
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to provide input into the roadmap through feedback from Stakeholders and Product Managers
  • Execute project management activities across multiple project teams and multiple regions simultaneously
  • Lead the prioritization and trade-offs in order to balance developer experience, customer experience, and time to market
  • Help to establish, implement and shape business processes, policies, standards, and metrics and define indicators for success to uplift Engineering Excellence across Engineering and Product organizations
  • Ensure all programs have project plans and timelines, project teams have clear goals, objectives, and deliverables consistent with company goals
  • Facilitate regular program cadences, status update and review meetings to ensure the key stakeholders, product managers, and cross-functional teams are involved and work closely; capture all the decisions and action items and follow up with owners on commitments, track and report every program phase status 

Qualifications

  • Technical Program Management or equivalent management experience in a mid- to large-sized company running complex programs with multiple stakeholders for at least 5 years
  • Experience in related technology roles, partnering with software engineering and product teams
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, GoogleSuites, Slack). Deep understanding of Agile and waterfall development processes
  • Experience delivering complex projects that involve cross functional contributors on-time and within expected results.
  • Experience building sustainable, repeatable processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • General appreciation for software architecture and software development concepts
  • Strong ownership attitude, focused on proactively removing program obstacles, and willingness to drive every project through to completion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders and teams across the Engineering and Product organizations
  • Ability to drive clarity from ambiguity and break down complex projects into manageable, interdependent deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience managing trade-offs given specific constraints.

Bonus Points

  • Project Management skills certified. (e.g., PMP, CSM) 
  • Experience in Risk, Fraud or other Risk related problem spaces.
