Full-stack Engineer, Payment Platform

  • San Francisco, CA, USA
  • Employees can work remotely
  • Full-time
  • Alternate Location: Seattle, United States

Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

We are Payment Reporting, a new team whose mission is to provide Square sellers with a clear, relevant, and trusted view of their Square payment activity and tax obligations. These products are essential for any Square seller to maintain a healthy business and are critical for Square to enter new countries, launch new products, and grow upmarket to attract and retain larger, more complex sellers.

We are looking for a full-stack engineer who is passionate about making our sellers’ own data more accessible and available to them, and can collaborate closely with other engineers on the team to evolve our frontend/backend systems to help make that a reality.

You will:

  • Provide high-quality hands-on contributions to the front-end/back-end systems that power our reporting experiences.
  • Work with the team’s lead frontend developer to evolve and contribute to our front-end architecture.
  • With Product and UX, work cross-functionally to scope and design user-facing experiences.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment, where you will have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to others on the team.

You have:

  • 4+ years of relevant industry (or additional academic) experience
  • Experience and familiarity with single-page applications built in modern Javascript
  • Familiarity with developing and operating backend services in languages such as Javascript, Java/Kotlin, or Python.
  • Interest and experience working in a collaborative team environment, and the attendant written/verbal communication skills.

  • Have used GraphQL in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with the payments domain
  • Experience with building user-friendly reporting experiences and data presentation

Technologies we use within Payment Reporting:

  • ES6, Ember.js
  • Ruby, Kotlin, Java
  • GraphQL
