As an Engineering Manager on Foundation & Isolated Development, you would lead an Android team responsible for designing and building foundational frameworks and tools, and shaping best practices. Engineering teams across Square rely upon these offerings to create compelling and ambitious experiences quickly, at scale. Our team reports to the Developer Empowerment organization which ensures software development at Square is not only fast and efficient, but delightful.
Lead a foundational, multi-discipline team of Android engineers working on complex, mobile at scale projects with wide impact across the company.
Lead the selection, development, and adoption of best-in-class solutions for mobile development.
Guide and execute source code modularization projects to allow for loosely coupled components, enable fast local development, and reduce CI time.
Work with multiple partners across the company including product, design, legal, support, and other engineering teams.
Guide, organize, and communicate the team's quarterly goals and accomplishments.
Mentor engineers and help cultivate their career aspirations.
- 8+ years of software development or equivalent experience
- 2+ years experience directly managing engineers (including providing mentorship, feedback, and investing in the career growth of your team members)
- A history of healthy collaboration with product managers, engineers, and other engineering managers on developing road-maps and working towards them
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300
Zone B: USD $211,600 - USD $258,600
Zone C: USD $200,500 - USD $245,100
Zone D: USD $189,400 - USD $231,400

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a commission plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
