Job Description

The Business Advisory & Technology team provides the people, processes, data, and technology solutions that shape the way we work and drive the business forward. Our approach is grounded in the following disciplines:

  • Process & Design – defining what users need to succeed and developing new or refined ways to execute by reducing points of friction and manual intervention

Reshaping the future of Finance at Block calls for improving our ability to provide value to our customer teams. The Business Advisory & Technology Assistant Manager for Finance, reporting to our Business Advisory & Technology Finance Program Manager, will work with finance professionals and technical experts to realize opportunities that develop an excellent foundation for the finance operating model. 

We are looking for someone who can contribute to thinking on the "art of the possible" in architecting solutions that support future needs, surface and help to sequence high priority transformation efforts, redefine the way our work is performed through improved processes, enhanced systems, ,and realigned the Finance organization structure, manage change creatively within a complex, dynamic organization, and effectively communicate value propositions to promote internal agreement

You Will:

  • Support Leads, Program Managers, and Controllership leads to create tactical blueprints and the roadmap for innovation
  • Work withProgram Managers as PMO for finance transformation initiatives to help stakeholders with the project management, tracking and communication status of workstream efforts, managing program risks/issues and progress towards strategic goals
  • Diagnose root problems and recommend end-to-end solutions that use digital workflows and tools and harness the power of robotic process automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to reinvent and accelerate our work
  • Partner with Finance leadership and department finance leaders globally to drive change in the most effective way possible, deploying traditional project management and agile methodologies. Communicate with Finance teams and Identify existing issues and develop solutions
  • Partner the PMO in the design, implementation, and evolution of change strategies and plans to inspire and motivate people to embrace the changes that are required to move Block's business forward and support our complexity at scale. 
  • Partner with Business Systems teams to help implement digital technologies to improve operational effectiveness, compliance and reporting, incorporating digital enablers for end-to-end finance processes (such as procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, record-to-report) by assessing challenges/needs/gaps
  • Be an advisor to the transformation plans Finance will launch by sharing experience and ideas on what the art of possible is to transform the utility and influence of the Finance team
  • Maintain an understanding of advancements in technology and innovations which are happening across digital, analytics, the CFO ecosystem, and broader marketplace
  • Participate in process development and improvement discussions to help determine performance metrics
  • Identify process opportunities with a consideration for functional and logical system design and implementation
  • Understand the requirements and priorities around deliverables for finance transformation
  • Partner with FBS and internal customers to identify and integrate technologies to produce and consume data enhancing our business intelligence and reporting

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience working with and/or within Finance organizations or IT organizations advising finance leaders on Finance transformation experience, including ERP or EPM implementations, process improvements, service delivery model design and implementation, automation, and other essential impacts for the Finance team
  • A thorough understanding accounting principles and business processes around financial statement management and statutory reporting
  • Experience synthesizing data and narratives into findings and recommendations as well as effectively communicating those findings and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • An understanding of advanced finance related solutions & platforms such as Oracle Fusion, Hyperion, Blackline, Trintech, Essbase, Workday, etc.
  • Experience with best-practice Finance operating models and the supporting organization structures
  • Experience with the design and implementation of financial systems
  • Experience in the agile project management approach
  • A successful record of career progression with increasing levels of responsibility

Nice to Have:

  • Oracle Cloud ERP implementation experience with modules such as Oracle Cloud ERP, Oracle Cloud EPM Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS), Oracle Account Reconciliation Cloud Service (ARCS)
  • Workiva implementation experience with modules such as SEC and Statutory (GSR) Reporting modules
  • Experience with mapping processes into a flowchart format with tools such as Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart or others
  • Understanding of database structure and experience with SQL and Snowflake
  • Experience with data processing/analytics and intelligent automation tools such as Alteryx and UiPath
  • Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Looker, and PowerBI
  • Certified Public Accountant [CPA] license
  • Experience with Google Workspace applications (e.g. Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) and/or their corresponding Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Understanding of technology advancements and innovations happening across digital, predictive analytics, data visualizations, robotics and artificial intelligence that influence the direction of Finance organizations

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $114,200 - USD $139,600
Zone B: USD $108,500 - USD $132,700
Zone C: USD $102,800 - USD $125,600
Zone D: USD $97,100 - USD $118,700
