Job Description

As a member of the Capital Markets team, you will play a key role in supporting the strategic planning and capital markets needs of the various lending businesses within Block. Block has lending vertices that serve small businesses and vertices that serve consumers. Included are more developed products like Square Loans to small business and Afterpay receivables to consumers as well as newer products in development like Cash Borrow, Loans and Advances to International Square sellers. 

This candidate will be responsible for sourcing new institutional investors, managing the relationships with lenders, and designing new structures to help fund Block’s newer lending products. Additionally, this role will serve as a secondary point of contact for investors and lenders for Block’s more mature lending products. This candidate will support the continued expansion of Block’s various lending businesses, and be instrumental in helping product teams improve lending products across the Block ecosystem.

Overall, this role is critical to the ongoing success of Block’s lending products and will provide an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to make a meaningful impact and strengthen their skills in the areas of strategy development and execution

You will: 

  • Design, document, and implement new fundraising structures and strategies including but not limited to forward flow arrangements, warehouse and other leverage facilities and securitizations
  • Advise management and key stakeholders on market color and investor sentiment for strategic decision making 
  • Contribute to Block’s funding growth strategy, product roadmap, and performance tracking by analyzing and evaluating current systems, capabilities and structures
  • Identify and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including banks, institutional investors, legal counsel, auditors and business units
  • Partner with Block Treasury, Investor Relations and Finance & Strategy teams to develop a framework for balance sheet management across all lending products 
  • Coordinate with the product and data teams to understand asset performance metrics and develop reporting for compliance purposes
  • Maintain and own policies, operational procedures and risk oversight
  • Represent Block Capital Markets at various conferences and panels, as required
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to individuals and teams to build capital markets capabilities

Qualifications

You have:

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience with institutional sales, debt capital markets, structured finance, and/or investor relations; management consulting also highly regarded 
  • Experience in a high transaction volume BNPL or credit card issuing institutional bank or major NBFI is highly regarded
  • Experience in the delivery and management of financing transactions (loan sales agreements, warehouse lending agreements) in a global context; bond issuance experience in an international market is highly regarded
  • Experience with MicroStrategy and Moody’s Ki is highly regarded
  • Leadership skills with a proven ability to innovate
  • Superior organization and time management skills partnering with a global team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with SQL or Python is a plus
