Job Description

Block (formerly known as Square) is looking for a paralegal with relevant corporate and regulated financial institution experience. If hired, you will help provide organizational and substantive support to the attorneys on the counsel team building the first fintech ILC, you will build new systems and procedures, and you will work with the legal team, contracts managers, operations and compliance teams. You will report to the Corporate and Banking Governance Counsel and can be based in our Oakland, New York or Salt Lake City office or remote.

You Will:

  • Coordinate and prepare for ILC board and board committee meetings and pre-read deliverables 

  • Support the ILC legal team by coordinating requests and corporate actions between Block and its independent ILC bank subsidiary and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements 

  • Provide administrative support to the ILC legal team and help manage important transaction documents, drafting corporate documents, reviewing and executing contracts, and maintaining confidentiality

  • Manage corporate records and help coordinate with the Square and ILC banking, finance and regulatory teams on different requests in connection with regulatory filings and examinations and external and internal audits

  • Manage special corporate projects

  • Help with the filing of registrations and similar documents with the Secretary of State and other government agencies

  • Work with our internal ILC banking, business, and compliance teams, and with external advisors and experts

  • Manage projects with a team-oriented approach


You Have:

  • At least three (3) years of experience as a paralegal at a public banking institution or the banking group of a large law firm

  • General knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations affecting industrial loan companies (or similar banking institutions), including Regulation W, FDIC rules and regulations, and other applicable laws

  • Experience with commercial lending business and deposit products

  • Project management experience

  • Strong problem solving abilities and attention to detail

  • Strong organization skills 

  • B.A./B.S.

  • Experience working collaboratively with a team to help achieve corporate team goals

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $125,600 - USD $153,600
Zone B: USD $116,800 - USD $142,800
Zone C: USD $110,500 - USD $135,100
Zone D: USD $100,500 - USD $122,900
