Job Description

Security Operations and Assurance (SOA) are responsible for protecting Block systems, users & customers; encouraging our employees to behave securely; identifying security threats; and responding to incidents. SOA provides world class security assurance and operations orchestration to our customers, partners, products, infrastructure and employees. Our customers expect us to protect their data and assets. As Block grows and expands, cyber security will play an increasingly important role in preventing disruption and protecting our reputation.

The Security Engineering & Operations team (SecEngOps) within SOA is composed of software engineers, who are not only focused and passionate about designing, implementing and maintaining software and services but also monitoring and improving their operational posture - SLA / SLO for uptime, service reliability, performance and deployment automation. This team is a foundational team in SOA and provides engineering and operational support to all its functions - Detection & Response, Corporate Security, Threat Intelligence and Insider Threat.

 

You will: 

  • Use your creativity and expertise to build scalable cloud-native data pipelines and detection systems that delight 
  • Collaborate as a team to iterate towards our best - such as reviewing code changes, suggesting process improvements, and offering design ideas 
  • Participate in our on call rotation to ensure our platform and customers have support when they need it the most

Qualifications

You have: 

  • 2+ years of industry experience as a programer, developer, SWE, or similar job roles.
  • A strong interest in security and growing your career in the direction of InfoSec (prior experience in InfoSec not required).
  • Comfortable working with outside teams to address problems and determine priorities.
  • Experience using cloud-native technologies for data processing.
  • Experience working in or with SRE or security detection and response teams.

Technologies we use and teach:

  • Google Cloud Platform products such as Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, and Google Kubernetes Engine 
  • Amazon Web Services products such as Cloudtrail, Simple Queue Service, Simple Notification Service, and Lambda 
  • Programming Languages: Ruby, Go, Java 

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
