Job Description

Afterpay is looking for our first Group Creative Director to join the Afterpay Brand Studio team in Australia. The AP Brand Studio team is responsible for seeing the most imaginative work into existence while building awareness for our Brand and our Products. The team is composed of creatives and artists who translate GTM strategy into powerful and purposeful creative that inspires and equips customers to live better financial lives using Afterpay. 

You will lead the team who develops exceptional creative responses for our important projects, including brand campaigns, product marketing, sales campaigns, and consumer campaigns with top retailers. They handle both consumer-led and B2B initiatives, delivering outstanding result.

You and your team will lead a wide range of projects encompassing diverse mediums, such as ATL, CRM, VM, sponsorships, digital marketing, website development, social media, content creation, and more. Agency partners and embedded creatives in other teams will collaborate and contribute to the creative work for the region - one of you primary responsibilities will be to empowering others to execute while ensuring exceptional application of the the brand on all touchpoints.

You will lead the creative vision and visual communication for our ANZ region.  You are energized around developing marketing campaigns and narratives that put our customers at the center. As a passionate storyteller and hands-on leader, you are able to speak with eloquence on the relevance and practical application of our customer value proposition  at scale. 

You will develop and mentor a creative team and encourage collaboration across Afterpay, enabling us to launch creative experiences that guide our mission, business and brand forward.  You will amplify creative work at Afterpay by managing and leading, cultivating disciplines and scaling our team as we take on the next era for the business.

Reporting to the Global Head of Brand Studio, this role will support our Brand Studio team and partner with our ANZ Marketing team while managing a team of Creative Directors, designers and writers.

You will

  • Manage and/or influence creative direction for all ANZ marketing campaigns
  • Translate GTM strategy into powerful and purposeful creative that inspires customers and deepens understanding
  • Collaborate with global peers to establish cohesive brand aesthetics and creative direction across external platforms
  • Work with writers to develop language that is clear and effective
  • Set and meet deadlines for various projects; oversee creative from  agencies
  • Evaluate trends, assess new data and keep up-to-date with marketing techniques
  • Build and manage a team of talented creatives while fostering an inclusive design community
  • Collaborate with creative leadership to establish brand aesthetics and creative direction
  • Evaluate trends, assess new data and keep up-to-date with marketing techniques
  • Partner with cross-functional peers to establish and define the brand marketing strategy, OKRs and roadmaps
  • Work with partners across Afterpay to guarantee an integrated brand experience


  • 15+ years of experience as a creative or art director
  • 6+ years of management experience
  • Strong sense of both product and brand realms 
  • Exceptional conceptual and graphic design skills 
  • Experience translating established brands into new expressions and spaces
  • Experience with advertising and the product development process
  • Clear point of view on creative and an openness to new ideas
  • Ability to lead and oversee multiple, simultaneous integrated marketing campaigns
  • Understanding of how to leverage creativity to meet business goals
  • Passion for recruiting, motivating, and managing a team of experienced creatives
  • Composure in the face of ambiguity and an ability to effectively work with multiple leadership styles
