Job Description

The purpose of the Proto team is to accelerate the world’s transition to a more open economy by making products that increase access and independence for everyone. The first two initiatives we’ve identified that represent the biggest impact to this purpose are in the Bitcoin space with bitcoin mining and Bitkey, a self custody bitcoin wallet. While we’re starting there, we don’t believe the need for tools to increase one’s independence is limited to bitcoin or the financial space. One principle across everything we do in Proto is open development – show and tell. We develop products in the open, you can read more about them at bitkey.build and mining.build.

We are looking for a senior technical writer who can help bring Block’s bitcoin mining products to market in an open and accessible way. You will be responsible for partnering with our product, engineering, design, and go-to-market teams to build a comprehensive package of technical documentation for all products across Proto. Early focus areas for this role will be creating API documentation for our mining development kit. This role will also have opportunities to impact our UX content across our mining and Bitkey product lines.

You will report to the Head of Design of Proto as your technical writing is a direct contributor to the user experience of our products and their success. You will also be directly embedded with product and engineering teams to have direct collaboration and impact on your deliverables.

You Will:

  • Gather and analyze technical and product information for inclusion in product documentation

  • Understand our developer audience and their needs and influence our product experience strategy with customer-driven research and insights.

  • Assist with creating test plans, Quality Assurance processes, and user documentation.

  • Prepare, review, revise and maintain technical documents, including data dictionaries, software and systems development and configuration, systems operations, work processes, playbooks, and runbooks.

  • Write, format, edit, review and proof procedural and technical information for technical and nontechnical audiences.

  • Create and maintain a library of documentation, cataloging it for internal and external use

  • Create, publish, and maintain templates for written documentation produced by others, ensuring a consistent look and feel

  • Partner closely with Subject Matter Experts for knowledge sharing and document review sessions

  • Assist with other writing tasks, such as UX copywriting, internal documentation projects, and blog posts as needed

Qualifications

***For consideration, please submit a link to your portfolio along with necessary passwords***

You Have:

  • ~8 years of experience as a Technical Writer, demonstrating exceptional written communication skills

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple, complex efforts simultaneously and adjust to changes in direction as needed to meet business objectives

  • Creative thinker with enthusiasm for cross team collaboration

  • Ability to work with a team of stakeholders, understanding cultural and market differences

  • A high level of initiative and self-motivation

  • Experience creating and managing different types of developer documentation (API references, conceptual guides, and tutorials).

  • Familiarity with authoring processes and tools such as Markdown and command line in a Macintosh environment with tools like Git and GitHub.

Even better:

  • Background in hardware and/or semiconductor products

  • Depth of experience with Bitcoin, specifically the mining space

  • Previous experience as a content designer / UX writer
