Job Description

Square is looking for a passionate, creative go to market leader to grow and manage our Sales and Account Management (SAM) teams and join a cross-functional leadership team in driving Square's Japan’s growth efforts. As the Head of SAM, you will be a senior leader on Square's Japan Core Leadership Team and own the vision and strategy for the Japan SAM team. In partnership with Square's Head of Emerging Markets and other cross-functional partners, both in-market and globally, you are the Sales & Account Management voice for Japan and will ensure that Square is well-represented. Your experience will be a valuable contribution to Square's approach in preserving and improving the Merchant experience, nurturing a culture of growth mindset, and investing in individual team members development. 

You will:

  • Be a key driving force in continuing Square's team growth.

  • Set and own the vision, strategy and execution plan for Sales & Account Management growth in-market and lead the team in execution.

  • Be an influential leader as part of the in-market GTM team and strategy.

  • Drive accountability in-market against Square Annual Plan.

  • Build and scale the in-market team to accelerate Square's global footprint.

  • Develop programs for targeted industry verticals, using analysis done in partnership with Finance and Sales Operations.

  • Drive improvements to Merchant experience through close partnership with data science, automation, tooling and analytics partners.

  • Own experimentation within the existing Merchant portfolio to unlock new and expanded AM opportunities.

  • Develop and invest in team members, both leads and individual contributors, so that employee engagement and satisfaction is optimized.

  • Bring an authentic culture unique to your market whilst ensuring it is one of performance, accountability, inclusion and fun.

  • Represent the voice of the in-market seller and engage with the Product team to guide product improvements.

  • Own, develop and nurture effective and collaborative in-market cross-functional relationships with: Marketing, Partnerships, Customer Success, Product, PMM, Finance & Strategy, Recruiting, People, Risk, Compliance, Legal.


You have:

  • 5+ years of sales success, preferably in a high growth company

  • 3+ years of leadership experience, with experience leading distributed teams of sales managers

  • (Preferred) Experience in high transaction volume SaaS application or financial services sales/account management

  • Proven ability to work with and influence cross-functional teams and departments in a rapidly growing environment

  • Proven ability to communicate and manage relationships with senior executives

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and communication skills

  • Extensive experience in a metrics-driven sales/acc organization
