Job Description

The North American Enterprise team at Block is responsible for driving revenue to Block’s core businesses (Afterpay, Cash App, Square) through commerce, giving our Merchant partners access to the largest and most engaged network of next generation consumers. 

We are looking for a driven, dynamic, and strategic Sales Leader to take the helm of our Strategic sales team. This individual will be responsible for coaching and developing a team of top-performing Account Executives who sell to mid-sized businesses. This individual will play a crucial role in driving revenue growth by leading a team that is essential in forging and establishing partnerships, by way of complex deal negotiation and execution with leaders in commerce, with an ultimate goal of expanding Block’s portfolio of payments products to some of the world’s largest brands and retailers. 

A successful candidate thrives in a challenging, fast-paced environment, has a passion for developing Account Executives, and exhibits a strong sense of ownership to win new business for Block. You will have a demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, think strategically and operationally about business, marketing and technical challenges; and lead cross-functional teams to launch product and commercial initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire: You will be the heart and soul of the Strategic sales team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment where Account Executives can thrive. This includes providing ongoing coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to unlock their full potential.

  • Exceed revenue goals: You will be accountable for achieving and exceeding ambitious revenue targets by coaching and motivating your team to close deals and build long-term successful customer relationships.

  • Operational excellence: You will ensure the smooth operation of the Strategic sales team, optimizing processes, leveraging data, and implementing best practices to drive efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Partnership and collaboration: You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to drive deals forward for your team, including Marketing, Finance, Product, Risk, Legal, Operations, Customer Service; and with external partners’ cross-functional executives

  • Talent acquisition and retention: You will be responsible for recruiting top talent, building a strong and diverse team, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

  • Build Block’s Network: Develop and grow Block’s relationships with leading brands, including their senior executives. Represent Block at industry events, trade shows and networking functions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of solution selling, 5+ years of experience in sales leadership, preferably in a fast-moving technology or financial services company sector.

  • Proven track record of exceeding sales quotas and consistently achieving revenue growth.

  • An operational mindset, with an ability to lead teams through complex deal constructs, relationships and organizations by setting a clear vision and implementing robust processes 

  • Significant experience driving and executing on complex deal work and strategy

  • Strong executive presence, with demonstrated ability to influence and earn trust with senior leaders, ask the right questions, and use sound business judgment internally and externally at large companies, including at the C-suite level

  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills, with a passion for developing and motivating others.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong understanding of the sales landscape and the ability to develop and execute a winning strategy.

  • Data-driven decision-making skills, with the ability to leverage analytics to improve the team’s performance.

  • A willingness to travel.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $102,700 - USD $134,600
Zone B: USD $100,200 - USD $125,200
Zone C: USD $94,800 - USD $118,500
Zone D: USD $91,600 - USD $114,500
