Job Description

Our Law Enforcement Response and Investigations team aims to keep Block and its customers safe from fraudsters and others who would abuse our platform. As a Law Enforcement and Civil Process Analyst, you are a crucial member of our team, helping build strong connections to law enforcement and government agencies and ensuring compliance with Block’s legal obligations by handling both civil and criminal legal process requests such as subpoenas, search warrants, and civil investigative demands (CIDs). As part of our Law Enforcement Response Team (LERT) you will be responsible for analyzing and addressing time-sensitive legal process inquiries and for this specific role you will focus on subpoena responses as a third-party to civil litigation. 

You will:

  • Be the first point of contact to analyze the validity of incoming legal process requests 

  • Accurately review, triage, and respond to various types of legal process with a focus on third-party civil litigation subpoenas, but also including criminal subpoenas and warrants from US and international law enforcement entities

  • Ensure that all valid requests are scrutinized and handled in strict accordance with applicable law, our terms of service, and procedures for protecting our customers’ privacy and security

  • Engage with attorneys, our customers, and law enforcement to notify and coordinate response efforts both in writing and over the phone

  • Innovate, document, and implement policies and procedures that scale with the business and are operationally feasible

  • Be a key support to your LERT and investigations teammates

  • Work cross-functionally with various teams across Block, including Compliance, Legal, Trust and Safety, and Infosec

  • Maintain quality standards while handling large volumes of time-sensitive requests

  • Use a variety of manual and automated tools to evaluate and compile potentially responsive information

  • Possible participation in trial appearances as Records Custodian on behalf of the company, which may require occasional travel

Qualifications

You have:

  • BA/BS degree, or related work experience in law enforcement and civil litigation response or equivalent environment, or paralegal and legal assistant background

  • Document production experience in civil litigation matters, including experience handling motions to quash, objecting to depositions or subpoenas, and other civil procedures governing discovery

  • Experience appearing for depositions as a custodian of records

  • Knowledge of and the ability to accurately analyze lengthy legal documents (e.g., civil and criminal subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants) 

  • Familiarity with law enforcement and various forms of legal requests

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams on process improvements

  • Ability to remain highly organized when faced with contending priorities

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Able to work independently while also operating as a collaborative team player

  • A passion for Block and its customers as well as a knowledge of our various products

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on the candidate's work location and may be may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $69,409.60 - USD $104,000.00
Zone B: USD $64,500.80 - USD $96,699.20
Zone C: USD $59,009.60 - USD $88,400.00
Zone D: USD $52,000.00 - USD $78,000.00
